Richard "Dick" HoyDick Hoy is a lifelong East County resident having attended elementary school in Lemon Grove and graduating from Helix High School.  He has made his home in La Mesa since 1961.  Dick has been married for 43 years and has two children, both of whom also graduated from Helix.

Mr. Hoy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State with a major in Social Science and a Masters degree in History from the same institution.  In 1967 he earned a Teaching Credential and subsequently taught for 34 years, 3 years at Lemon Grove Junior High and the final 31 years at Santana High School in Santee.  After retirement he served as a coordinator for the Grossmont District’s Academic League and Decathlon program and as a support provider for new teachers.  During his teaching career he earned numerous awards including the Golden Apple, Santee Teacher of the Year, the PTA’s Golden Oak service award, and the Golden G for exemplary service to the Grossmont District.  Dick served in many leadership positions with the teacher’s association and was honored with 2 WHO awards.

Mr. Hoy has also been a income tax preparer and a Realtor.

Dick Hoy was elected to the Grossmont Union High School District Governing Board in 2006 and is currently serving as its Vice President.  He believes in a quality education for all students and supports both a challenging college preparatory program and an extensive career tech program that will prepare students for the 21st century economy.
