Hoy’s statement to Patch.com

On October 11, 2010, in Campaign info, by admin

This is a reprint of Richard “Dick” Hoy’s statement at Patch.com.

It has been a privilege to serve the citizens of East County for the past four years.  We have an excellent high school district and, if re-elected, I will continue to promote the district’s tradition of excellence. I am a forceful advocate of a strong public school system. I believe in accountability, character education, a strong college preparatory program and vocational technical programs that will prepare students for 21st century careers.

In order to achieve the goals of the district, we must maintain sound fiscal policies that will ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. The current bond initiatives which total in excess of $800 million are a priority. We have established an independent, nonpolitical Citizens Bond Oversight Committee to monitor bond expenditures to make sure that the we get quality construction at the best prices.  We hired a construction management company with a reputation for finishing projects on time and under budget. In addition, we have conducted a Third Party Review to verify that the money is spent appropriately.  The results of these initiatives are readily apparent with hundreds of classrooms renovated, new science and career/technical facilities either finished, under construction or in planning.  The bond program was even nominated for an award by the San Diego Taxpayers Association.

Safe schools are another priority. The new construction on our high schools incorporates the latest in safety features.  A character education program has been implemented with a focus on treating each other with courtesy and respect.

I believe in and we have strong academic programs that focus on the basics, but also support the arts and vocational education. A well-rounded curriculum with extra-curricular activities is needed to attract students and keep them on the path to graduation.

I am a lifelong resident of the Grossmont district. Both my wife and I, as well as my children, are district graduates. I taught for 34 years—31 at Santana. I was awarded the Golden Apple by students, the Golden “G” for exemplary service to the Grossmont district, Santee Teacher of the Year and the PTA lifetime service award.

I am dedicated to providing a quality education for all our students, both those heading to college, and those planning to go into the work force. I would appreciate your support and vote.

Doug Dean Endorses Dick Hoy

On September 9, 2010, in Endorsements, by admin

I enthusiastically endorse Dick Hoy for reelection to the Grossmont Union High School District Board of Trustees.  During his tenure, Dick took a proactive role in the passage of two vital bond measures, Propositions H and U, and he was instrumental in the hiring of Bob Collins as Superintendent.  Since joining the GUHSD Board, Dick has overseen tremendous improvements in district infrastructure, in Career Technical Education and in all aspects of education in the Grossmont District. Dick’s only agenda is the quality of education for our children, and the impact that it has on the economic success of our region.  I endorse him for reelection without hesitation.
